Our roots are in mobile satellite communications, where controlling costs has always been a concern. We developed our Horizon solution for this market – to make best use of the limited satellite bandwidth available and minimise the volume of data consumed. And most importantly, save costs for the end-user.

Horizon is the world's most bandwidth-efficient VoIP platform. Enabled by our SmartPacket™ technology, it enables VoIP from only 2kbps compared to around 8kbps from other VoIP services today.

This extends into a range of optimised data applications – email, web browsing and instant messaging – which give the user total visibility and control over how much data they consume. Horizon is specifically designed for environments where there is limited bandwidth available.

Making best use of the bandwidth available

We then saw the potential within the broader telecommunications market – particularly in the mobile sector. With explosive growth in smartphone sales, mobile networks are becoming increasingly congested. Mobile data traffic has been growing threefold and mobile video traffic will soon eclipse all other types of traffic. So even basic voice calls put a strain on already-stretched network resources. More calls are being dropped and the risk of churn increases.

Even with higher bandwidth 4G networks, capacity is finite and there comes a point where it is only possible to optimise what is there. And that is the essence of our business today – Optimising internet communications™.
